Hello everyone,

since a few days I get dependency conflicts when trying to update world. I have no idea how to resolve this. I found nothing in the forum, the only thing which could be related is this bugreport: http://bugs.funtoo.org/browse/FL-1273. It suggests waiting a few days and the issue should have resolved itself - unfortunately it didn't.

This is what happends when I try an 'emerge -uNDtp world':
Code:
These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

You can try updating virtual/pam by itself. You can try increasing the --backtrack, ie emerge -auvND world --backtrack=42, you can try unistalling and reinstalling the virtual, ie emerge -C virtual/pam; emerge -a1v virtual/pam The last one may get you into trouble if it gets stuck without being able to install the package.

It really isn't hurting anything, so you could also leave it alone for a while longer and see if the problem goes away. Also, if you read the bug in your link you will notice that it is funtoo specific.

Thank you for your pointers.

virtual/pam-0-r1 is ~, so I would normally not merge it into my system (running amd64 here). It would also lead to a lot more packages from ~ being pulled in. I know the bugreport mentioned earlier is for funtoo, but it looks like it may sourround the same underlying issue. Which I guess has something to do with changes to the 32 or x32 flags or libs. The reason pam-0-r1 is pulled in is samba:
Code:
net-fs/samba-3.6.23-r1 (pam ? >=virtual/pam-0-r1[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?,abi_mips_n32(-)?,abi_mips_n64(-)?,abi_mips_o32(-)?])

which seems to be messed up in stable atm.

I think I will wait a bit longer and not merge virtual/pam-0-r1. Stay tuned :)

Ok. So I rolled back samba from 3.6.23-r1 to 3.6.23. And reversed the changes to keywords for talloc and tevent. Which I also downgraded to their stable version. I then put samba-3.6.23-r1 in package.mask.

Now world updates are working fine again. This is a bug in samba-3.6.23-r1 correct? (pulling in unstable pam, talloc and tevent versions) Should I open a bugreport for this?

Yes, if a stable package depends on an unstable one you should definitely bug report it if it hasn't already been done.

Ok. I haven't found any related bugreport and consequently created https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=514492.

Turns out I had an old entry in package.keywords marking 3.6.* samba stable. Sorry for the confusion. Bug is also closed.
