linux1 billydv # emerge --update --deep --newuse @system @world
Calculating dependencies... done!
>>> Verifying ebuild manifests
>>> Running pre-merge checks for net-libs/webkit-gtk-2.2.5
That's where my system freezes anything I try to update
What is going on? _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

found the problem,
it was hanging on the pre emerge checks because I emerge in a tmpfs in my ram, surprisingly webkit-gtk may need as much as 18g to compile? _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

That should have failed with a message telling you to grow the tmpfs, rather than just hang. What specifically was hung? |

it was just stopping at the running pre-merge checks. Now having pointed this to the disk for portage tmp dir it's fine. _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

If you want to debug this, then we must understand what is "it"? The package manager ran some command and was waiting for it to complete. Specify exactly which process and command line was blocked. |
