I can't change the luminosity settings (actually brightness, gamma settings work).
Code: |
lspci -v | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
|
Code: |
ls /sys/class/backlight/*/*brightness*
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/actual_brightness /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness
|
Values in sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness do change when xbacklight is set to ...
Code: |
more /usr/src/linux/.config | grep BACKL
# CONFIG_FB_BACKLIGHT is not set
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_LCD_SUPPORT=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_GENERIC=y
# CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_APPLE is not set
# CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_SAHARA is not set
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_ADP8860=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_ADP8870=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_LM3630A=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_LM3639=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_LP855X=y
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_LV5207LP=y
# CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_BD6107 is not set
# CONFIG_LEDS_TRIGGER_BACKLIGHT is not set
|
No changes using Fn keys either (although they show increasing/decreasing luminosity).

Hello,
On which computer ?
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad, and once I enabled thinkpad stuff, I got the brighness and volume automatically.
Some other computers need to define key bindings. _________________ Kind regards,

Hp ProBook 430
They do "work" (they DO change values in brightness) but the luminosity does not change! |

Solved adding GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor" to grub. |

I have same issue with ProBook 450s G0. But, the solution isn't working for me.
If I run system without additional commandline argument, in /sys/class/backlight are two entries: acpi_backlight and intel_backlight. Fn+F9 and Fn+F10 changed values in acpi_backlight, also updating some meter on the screen, but brightness wasn't changed. When I booted system with acpi_backlight=vendor, Fn-keys stopped showing anything, /sys/class/backlight has only intel_backlight entry.
In either case, I am able to change backlight manually by sending some value into /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness (only as root). This works, but running with hot keys would be better. Just configuring hot keys and sudo is possbile, but is not perfect solution, because there is also automatic brightness control in the power control, which would not work in case manual hot keys setup. |

Can't remember to have installed anything else. Once I had only one entry in /backlight that was it.... The function keys remained "functional". It looks like a key-related problem now.
Maybe upgrading kernel & everything once more would fix it... re-complile xorg... keyboards... |

Thank's for this. Worked for me too on my acer extensa. I'd not looked into this nearly the whole time I've had the laptop as I read somewhere in the archwiki that it was impossible on this particular model. |
