Ok, so after administering Linux and Unix systems for some 20 odd years, I finally reached the status of n00b, yeah

I have this weird problem, and I can't figure it out. Whenever I create a directory, it gets the sticky bit set. It is, admittedly an annoyance, not a real problem, but how the h*l can I make it so, the sticky bit isn't set by default?

Really I got me fazed for a couple of weeks now, even to the point the sticky bit has become a part of my desk. (Sticky desk, not really funny, but then again funny). Not to mention the not so n00b colleagues who kinda laugh their heads off.

i think its high time for a system administration wiki category. file management, user/group management, disk management, system management, log management, and general security practices... we should be able to take nooblet and make them godlike with a few links. im saying general linux / bsd commands to admin from a to z so newbies can learn too.

pgrep was a new one to me when i came here. base commands, outside of portage stuff.

they have 1 plank of it...

Wrong, umask is fine. I looked at that one first. Changing umask has no effect whatsoever.
If umask was the culprit, I'd have known.
