Not sure whether to post this here or not, but for the past 4-5 days once every 5 to 10 times I click on the forums I get a cannot connect message. I don't know if the traffic is just high or there is something going on with the servers. Just a heads up that you might want to look at things.
Edit to add: still seeing problems. Sat Dec 28 _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

Same here. Very annoying. After typing in a lengthy post for instance, just to find out it all has been lost because site is not responding. _________________ My Gentoo installation notes.

I haven't seen any issues.
The two most common problems I recall are related to browser cache (clear it) and DNS (ISP issues, something hard coded in your local /etc/hosts).
Separately, it is possible you're connecting during a busy backup window. For a while, that was happening to me. Well, I don't know that was the problem, but it was at a consistent time, so I made a guess it was a backup or other maintenance task briefly causing problems. _________________ Quis separabit? Either try resubmitting, or go backward. Copy & paste the text until the forum returns. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

They're periodic. Get a message, ten minutes later it's fine, then hour or two later another cannot connect.

That holds true for permanently not being able to connect, but not for the come and go type.
I've even restarted the browser which is set to clean cache on stopping and had the "can't connect" message.
I'm pretty sure it's related to the site not the users connecting, in this case.

Might hold true if it happened at a certain time of the day, but it's spread throughout the day,
early morning, mid day, night (for me central us tz)
It's been better lately, but still seeing periodic can't connects, works if I wait a while.
re: back button
I've gone to post and had it not connect, so I've used the back button and let it sit for a while till it will connect.
Again I was just alerting that there was a potential problem.
In the scheme of things it affects me less than 1% of the time.
Perhaps you're just lucky in not having it affect you.
It's easy to dismiss reports when one isn't personally inconvenienced. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

The way I read the forums, I'll usually open a separate tab for all of the forums that I read that have new messages, then tab down through, opening a tab for each thread I want to read. There are times when half of the tabs can't connect to the server but the other half do, indicating it isn't a DNS issue, but probably some type of server load issue. Given it happens even when the number of online users listed on the main page of the forums is low, it is probably some type of maintenance script running, though it's possible that it's some type of fault somewhere between the server* and I (or the server itself). It used to be guaranteed to happen around 0500 GMT every day, but now it doesn't reliably happen then (I'm guessing that used to be the time the maintenance scripts used to run).
* or one of the servers since there seems to be several front ends. When the above happens at forums.gentoo.org, forums-web1.gentoo.org still generally works. _________________ Ryzen 3700X, Asus Prime X570-Pro, 64 GB DDR4 3200, GeForce GTX 1660 Super

That's pretty much how I do it too.

I was going to say, earlier this morning, that it seemed better but just know, I've had several can't connect messages,
simply from trying to get a post window or post a reply.

Hardly seems like the server is overworked. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

Still lots of disruptions in getting to the site.
As previously pointed out, one can get the index and click on one or more forums
and some will show while others get a cannot connect message.
I don't think it has anything to do with dns or too many people.
I know there were problems in the past when one or more servers
got out of sync with the majority. I suspect something like that is
going on but no way to prove it. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel
