Hi there,
I have been having this trouble for about two or three months and it is very annoying:
Whenever I watch a youtube video and increase the stream to higher than it is displayed (e.g. 360), the video immediately stops playing and after two or three seconds the video screen turns blank. Then it says there is an error with the video and I should try again later.
I was searching for a solution online every now and then for the last two months. I disabled all plugins, addons, turned off/on hardware acceleration, cleaned cash and so on.
I decided to try chromium and it turned out it works fine with chromium. So I thought I will switch to chromium until maybe it solves itself someday on firefox. Since I have been using gentoo in 2006, I had all sorts of problems with flash, firefox and amd64.
But now I have a problem with chromium:
The fonts on chromium do not get rendered correctly on some webpages (especially youtube and facebook). The page loads and it all looks fine but just when it is finished loading, the fonts turn into a ugly shape. I have been trying to solve this myself and switched to infinality and others and followed many howtos until I had messed up the font setting so much that I could not read one sentence without getting a headache. Before I started switching I made a backup of my system so I was able to go back to where I was.
I also installed droid fonts. But if I enable them my GTK desktop looks awful and it does not even have an effect on the fonts in chromium.
SO, am I doomed to either use firefox with low quality video or get a headache from the ugly fonts in chromium. Of course I can switch between the two browsers, but that is very inconvenient.
I would be happy to either solve the flash problem or the font problem.
BTW: Epiphany works fine, too. And the fonts look fine.
Thank you for reading and making suggestions.

Thank you for your answer.
I also tried the fonts rendering from arch linux. It does not work.
Flash in chromium works. Flash in firefox does not work.
Firefox:
fonts work - flash doesn't.
Chromium:
flash works - fonts don't.
Maybe this applies:

You have given no info on what version of firefox you are using. If it is 24.1x or greater you can use -system-cairo and use the bundled cairo which resolves the issues for just about everyone with flash in firefox. |

Thank you for your answer and time.
My firefox version is 17.0.9.
I have not turned on the system-cairo flag.
I want to add that I am dualbooting Slackware64 14.0 on this machine and everything works fine there. Chrome has sharp fonts and flash in firefox works nicely in 1080p.
However:
I just figured out that Adobe will no longer support flash after January 2014. So the only real solution for flash on linux amd64 will be to use the google chrome built in flash pepper?
I think I will have to switch to chrome or chromium for the future then (or at least until html5 takes completely over). If I understand that correctly it is of no use to solve the issue on firefox, if the flash player will only be available for another 2 months.
I would like to upload 2 pictures to show you how chrome looks compared to firefox but I dont know how to.
I also emerged chrome (to compare with chromium) now and both look the same - very ugly fonts - even on google.com. The fonts look as if you wrote something with ink on toilet paper. |

I have a SL510 Thinkpad running gentoo. Everything works fine there with firefox and flash, but I switched to chromium and pepperflash there now, too. No issues with the fonts.
I really do not understand that.
It cannot be hardware, because it is fine with Slackware. It's got to have smth to do with my gentoo install. But what? How can I change fonts in chromium without changing them systemwide? |

I found it.
It was my Geforce graphics card.
For some reason I had FXAA enabled in the nvidia-settings. I disabled it and it works fine now. Interesting though that it only affected the fonts in Chrome. Maybe due to "Chromium doesn't use system rendering."
Anyway thanks to everyone for helping and reading. |

Thank you ... this solved my problem with flash that started with 25.0.1.
Are there reasons to use -system-icu -system-jpeg -system-sqlit? |
