vlc 2.1.0 ffmpeg libpostproc nightmares ahead

what gives 1 requires the other and neither will merge side by side for no apparent reason. anyone got this one hammered out?

You can't have ffmpeg and libpostproc simulataneously installed as they block each other. If you decide to go for ffmpeg, you need at least ffmpeg-1.2; emerging vlc would tell this.

yes - and if you choose either one of them you will run into other issues - libav / ffmpeg dependencies are making me really mad :evil:

Which other issue(s)? I run ffmpeg and don't have any problems. So, definitely possible to have it set up in a way that's not full of breakage; I can't comment about libav-9999 though...

I'm struggling with this too. vlc wants ffmpeg which in turn requires libpostproc (from the vlc ebuild). However, libpostproc ebuild requires >=virtual/ffmpeg-0.10.2-r1 but then also has !media-video/ffmpeg:0.

I'm failing to see how to install ffmpeg such that I can emerge vlc with libpostproc being required by vlc and simulteneously blocking ffmpeg:0.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I can't see it. Any help greatly appreciated.
