Ok, XCDRoast doesn't recognize my IDE burner, and says I need to set up SCSI emulation. I've tried some Google searches to read up on this, but don't have a great handle on it. Can anyone else who's been through this give me the steps?
Specifically, the problem is that the CD-Writing HOWTO seems to be outdated, and I can't find the SCSI Emulation option in the 2.4.x menuconfig. |

It's SCSI generic support. Do a search, I know this has been answered here before. I think you might need SCSI CDROM also. Then add hdx=scsi to your kernel line where x=you dev letter for your ide cdrw. You also might want to make sure DMA is being enabled by the kernel on your ide devices before all this. |

I think there are several threads about it
Try a search, I'm almost sure you'll find lots of info about it inside gentoo forums. |

Got it working.
That was a lot easier than I thought it would be. |

Yes, you're right.
All you need in the kernel is (either built in or with modules):
SCSI emulation
SCSI generic
SCSI CD support (to mount cd's with your cdwriter).
As for the CD-Writing HOWTO, it may be out-of-date (2.0.x kernel's and the like), but it's still correct and that's why it hasn't been updated
Have fun burning |
