About half (maybe a third?) of the times I load a page on these forums the page gets stuck resolving the host, and eventually displays
Code:
Oops! Google Chrome could not find forums.gentoo.org

I don't know if this is typical (maybe because of the load) or indicative of problems on my end, but I thought I'd mention it in either case.

It's been going on ever since that time long past when I registered (yesterday :D ).

Does the problem occur for other gentoo hosts?
bugs.gentoo.org
www.gentoo.org

We do run DNSSEC for the entire domain, does your resolver handle DNSSEC correctly?

Can you post output for:
$ dig +dnssec forums.gentoo.org IN ANY

You should get:
forums.gentoo.org. 1577 IN CNAME forums-lb.gentoo.org.
forums.gentoo.org. 1577 IN RRSIG CNAME 5 3 1800 20140305181730 20130906181730 52980 gentoo.org. ocKTGrqR/rn6Q/QwPTGqiapzV3NYwRg2ZgWFz/xSSAoamby6YDFhvS1S zCf0gZHlkQV+N2UZqH5FnUQBO2dCRMRJu8KdhCCFnKwl9jJBounZ9Fxi kiiDQTHlm4NiAZRNwQrE3kyJ9fM1IgRyDy2mGusQEkflRZ2CQfMCz/8O ar+l7aCWjEgnAx++I1sWDLQS+YIQT64WUdQfQbFTFF8hqA==

Plus more info.

If you vary your DNS server, does the problem go away?

Looking at the time you're posting, I'm guessing you're visiting the forums during daily maintenance, during which, they basically become very sporadic and pretty much unusable for a little while.

Are you still encountering service outages around that time? I ask because they have not been evident otherwise for some time now, and name resolution was not affected when they were.

Try using a different DNS server and see if that changes the behavior (e.g., 8.8.8.8 ).

i don't think the daily maintenance problem is a problem anymore. its been really good to me during those times recently. even when it was a problem, it would have the navigation and throw errors saying unable to query database or something of the sort.
