Does anybody know how to get 5.1 Dolby Digital sound to work in Xine if i can? It works in powerdvd in windows just fine. C-Media 8738 and CSW DTT2200 speakers(yes, they are 5.1!). I have 4.0, 5.0, and 5.1 audio enabled in Xines setup menu and i have my kernel module set to 6 speaker support.(using OSS)

how exactly are you trying to get your surround sound? 6-channel analog out? or AC3 bypass? Also, what kind of sound card do you have? The Live and Audigy both require emutools to enable bypass and digital out support.

hmm... From past experience Xine with multi-channel analog out has basically always worked for me, assuming it was enabled. You don't have a52_surround_downmix enabled, do you? Also, do you have settings for your surrounds/center in your mixer? Maybe they're not enabled there? Just some thoughts. Other than that, can't really help you. Sorry!

any mixer. I just use aumix, since it's easy and almost always available. Can't promise you'll even have any special settings in there, but it can't hurt to check.

sorry, I'm out. I've only used analog out once before, and that was only in deperation as I couldn't get my digital out working. I have a SB Live! 5.1 and surround speakers with built-in DD decoding and stereo upmixing, so I setup everything to run through my digital out now and forget about it. Keep trying, though. Most likely there's just some seemingly insignificant detail in the whole process that is the key to it all (lost count how many times that's happened to me). Good luck!

How do you get 5.1 sound with the live/audigy I have been trying to do this for a while now. I do have the emu-tools emerged and the emu10k1 driver, from creative.

shouldn't be too tough. First of all, make sure you edit /usr/local/etc/emu10k1.conf and enable the necessary options for your card, and you'll also want to make sure this is being loaded when you load the emu10k1 driver (see this thread for more information).
Next, make sure Xine is not running, then 'rm -rf ~/.xine'. Restart Xine, and it''ll redetect your sound card capabilities. When the config GUI pops up, enable the necessary options under the Audio tab and you should be good to go. If you'll be using digital out, you may have to restart Xine again after enabling the option.

Can you tell me what all the settings are in the audio panel of xine that I should use to enable digital 5.1 out please (AC3 bypass so my amp can decode the signal)

At the moment it is using the oss driver is that right?

Nope. :D Unfortunately, my system is dead right now while I try to resolve a major issue I'm having with X during installation. I know you'll want to use the OSS driver, and you'll need to enable an option that says something along the lines of "a52_pass_through". It should be close to the top in the Audio section, under the rest of the options that let you enable analog four, five, and 5.1 channel out. If the option isn't there, then either digital out or AC3 bypass support (or both) isn't enabled for your sound card. Recheck to make sure everything is setup correctly in /usr/local/etc/emu10k1.conf (USE_DIGITAL_OUTPUT=yes and AC3PASSTHROUGH=yes will definitely be required), and then rerun /usr/local/etc/emu-script. 'rm -rf ~/.xine' and try again.

Have you got an Audigy? Then you must run audigy-script instead.

Please report if you are successful with that passthrough thing because it seems that it got broken with the audigy. At least I've never heard of somebody getting it to work.
