|
|
I currently have a fake-raid setup with Windows 7 on it, but I'm getting a new motherboard tomorrow and have to redo my system. I wanted to know if I made Windows 7 a software raid; can I put Gentoo as a software raid too, and use Grub or some boot-loader to load the operating systems. Also I wanted to put a partition between the two raids for backups and misc files that both raids can access... If possible! I have 3 drives @ 1.5TB and the partition would be:
Raid 5
150GB
Raid 1 LVM
/boot
/swap
/linux
1TB
Partition - My Documents
350GB
Raid 2 Win7
/boot - 100 MB windows 7 takes for loading OS
/pagefile
/Windows 7 x64
Anyway thanx for the help... I don't know to much about raids when it comes to windows and linux... _________________ Gankfest™ (>")> ~*

First off... I trust those fake raids about as far as I can spit. They tend not to survive between mobo's and chipsets and performance isn't that hot for the trade off. I'd use a full software raid myself, but if you want to share between win and linux, you will be forced to rely on the mobo and chipset to implement your raid scheme in the bios. Partition as follows:
partition 1 - 250mb which will be linux /boot
partition 2 - win 7 install
partition 3 - docs
partition 4 - linux (don't bother with lvm, and I personally haven't bothered with a swap in years)
Do the win 7 stuff first then do linux. Have grub stomp on the win7 mbr and put an entry in your grub.conf to get into the windows partition, thus giving you dual boot. |

Ya I figured that was the only way... I'm getting an SSD card soon for Win7 which then I can linux on a raid all by itself. Anyway thanx for the info. _________________ Gankfest™ (>")> ~*
