stage3 not working:bzip2 wanting GLIBC_2.17 symbol

I'm trying to reinstall a gentoo installation (switched from amd to intel, so a lot of recompilation )but I'm stuck with an error that I can't fix, at least so far:
after chrooting, I need to compile a new kernel but emerge genkernel fails with a bzip2 error (nto able to find GLIB_2.17). The bzip2 binary is not able to run wuth stage 3 provided libs, however it runs with livedvd glibc (out of chroot cage).
Moreover, probably due to this error (bzip2 basically not working), every emerge causes several damages.
I guess it is a problem tha happen only on my system, but can someone point me in the right direction? probably I'm doing something wrong, not sure what:)

Nevermind: it seems due to a stray file from previous installation.
