Hi,
i just want to "clone" an installation of gentoo to an other box. It has an other CPU so i want to rebuild it. Is it enough, if i copy the world file and /etc/portage/* and rebuild everything on the new target? Have i forgotten any important information which i need? Do i need to copy whole /etc ?
Bye

That's not quite enough. Think about the symlinks in /etc/init.d, the contents of /etc/conf.d, /etc/rc.conf, etc. Lots of little files strewn around. If your target CPU is at least as new as your current one, you can image the whole disk and then just adjust and recompile the kernel in a chroot and then, from a running system, re-emerge everything. Might be easier.
