I'm having a wierd problem with my printer. Its a HP Deskjet 720C and I have compiled my kernel with all the options necessary for a parallel port printer. I tried getting cups working but when it wouldn't work i tried
Code: |
cat test.txt > /dev/parport0
|
and nothing happened. I also looked at dmesg and it shows my printer being detected. My printer works on Suse and windows but I can't get it to work on windows. Any help would be appreciated. _________________ munk |

I fixed it. I looked on the linuxprinting forums and there was a post there about someone who couldnt set up their printer and using cat wasn't working. This is because HP Printers need the pnm2ppa thing and cant understand raw text. Take a look here for a proper explanation:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/newsportal/article.php3?id=1824&group=linuxprinting.hp.general
I just set up cups using the instructions on http://www.linuxprinting.org/cups-doc.html and everything is working fine. Perhaps the printing doc should be updated so that people don't think that if cat doesnt work there is some problem.
I thought i'd post in case others had similar problems. _________________ munk |
