I've got a tot that's growing faster than I can keep up.

Any suggestions for a web content filter that will work on a box that I setup as a router? Paid or free.

Install squid on the router and setup transparent proxying for your web filtering rules? Squidguard is suppose to be pretty flexible.

Look at dansguardian.

Here's a child-safe web browser:
http://www.kidzui.com/

A child oriented search engine:
http://www.kidrex.org/

OpenDNS offers a family-safe DNS service for a small fee. Norton offers a similar service. Both claim to block sites known to serve malware, and to offer optional kid-safe dns servers (which, I imagine, also block porn, etc.).

direct parental supervision ;-)

and since you have few years of time before the web filter becomes really useful, don't forget to install it in all public libraries, schools, friends, friends of friends .......

BTW I am a lot more worried by drawers, doors, plastic bags, AC sockets and random accessible objects right now ....

Pffftt... I wouldn't worry; if anything like that happens, it's just Darwin at work.

Yeah, and not only that, but you could consider also using OpenDNS.
