grub efi and leftover manjaro boot [SOLVED]. - idiot move

hi, so i was just trying out a manjaro install, on a new asus c60m and it install some fancy grub with efi or something. So after trying manjaro for about an hour i decided i wanted to go back to gentoo. I reformatted my ssd drive (sda), and installed gentoo with no problems but the grub wont seem to show up on reboot. There still seems to be some leftover efi bios stuff from manjaro that seems to be stopping me from getting to the grub loader screen. I thought reformatting the drive and reinstalling would get me past but it hasnt. Cfdisk ccomplained about gparted being used to set up the disk, so i went into parted and removved all partitions, then used cfdisk again to set partitions. reinstalled gentoo, and same boot,loader issues. what have i done, how do i clear this up. thanks

Try running Boot Info Script and posting the RESULTS.txt file that it generates, either between code tags or as a link. This will provide us with partitioning and boot loader information required to diagnose your problem.

Are you able to execute in a way the Linux command efibootmgr to see what's the EFI firmware have in his menu? Me, I had to use the EFI Shell with the bcfg command to have a valid entry for Linux in the EFI menu. The efibootmgr command have no effect in on my HP Pavilion g6 Notebook.

Can you access the EFI bootloader by pressing a key just after power on? You can tell the EFI bootloder where to look for the EFI binary you want if it is in the EFI partition.

Your Boot Info Script output shows what looks like a straight-up BIOS-mode installation -- you've got MBR partition tables on both of your hard disks, a BIOS-mode GRUB installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb, and no evidence of an EFI System Partition (ESP) or EFI-mode boot loaders. My suspicion is that your problem lies in one of two things:

Firmware settings -- Check your firmware settings to disable EFI/UEFI support and/or to enable BIOS/CSM/legacy support. Also, check that your BIOS boot order is set to boot from /dev/sdb (your 80GB disk) first, since that's where GRUB is installed.
Boot loader setup -- It's conceivable that your GRUB boot loader installation is damaged, so re-installing it (via "grub-install" or similar commands) may be in order. If your firmware gives you insufficient boot order options, you might also want to try installing to /dev/sda instead of to /dev/sdb.

so, only fair to report back, i found my error after the third install over a period of 5 days, which you pointed out about grub-install. after years of installin gentoo successfully then taking a haitus i approacched the documentation lightheartedly and apparently glanced right over the grub-install part. i thought that section felt a little empty (in my head). that grub on /dev/sda2 was the left over manjaro. thanks. pays to slow down sometimes, especially after 5 gruelling days of just wanting to get up and rolling, beating off the desire to just bang linuxmint on there for a quick X fix.
