|
|
After upgrading to the unity-gentoo overlay (and kde-base), whenever I use "rc-update" the output is now equivalebt to an "rc-update show", listing all the enabled init scripts but not updating the changed settings. Any idea what got twisted in the process of the updates and how to regain the rc-update function to be able to run "rc-update && source /etc/profile" with the normal results? I tried to emerge again the openrc package but no change.
Any help is appreciated

Here goes the "guess what the user is thinking" game
my choice #1
"env-update && source /etc/profile"
my #2
rc-status
i would make #3
etc-update |

krinn, you are a doll javascript:emoticon('')
guess I've been at this too long, learning this great distribution, and should take a break to let all that I have read in the last four weeks sink in a bit...all starting to get scrambled, apparently. Yes, it is env-update and NOT rc-update.
Thank you very much |

Krinn, since you seem to be a helpful soul, could I bother you with another question?
In my readings I came across running "python-updater" and "perl-clean all" as part of a large world update, but I saw this in only one reference and not as part of the general gentoo info sites. Are these commands still recommended or they have been "deprecated" like what I think many found useful in the past --inject option for emerge? |

python/perl tools helper are need if python or perl was in your update, else it doesn't make sense.
They could make sense if you see something python or perl is broken too.
But running them after an emerge world blindly is a bit loosing time. |
