In my last installation, I was using gmtp which wasn't so bad except it took a long time to connect to the android device
this time I would like the android phone to be automounted the same way a USB drive is(if it is possible)

if not I would like a better solution than gmtp if it is possible

thanks

HU? and it dosnt work for you by USB ?

Plug and it works, maybe u need to run ur filemanager with root permissions... i have this issues with my cell on Debian... sigh... But its Debian NOT Gentoo ;) but in generall it works pretty good
You should keep in mind, to transfer the files and songs into the correct directorys located on ur cell phone..... it works, never heard anyone has trouble with it
No idea what kind of Gui ur using (only Gnome? or XFCE, LXDE?, best choice, my opinion= XFCE).... Tux Commander is a good helper or Krusader... or.. or... ur choice what u like and prefer

Bluetooth3/4 is another option , also works pretty good and fast... get a new Bluetooth3/4 Dongel for ur comp (they became pretty cheap allready) and u even need no wired connection between comp and cell.
But keep also in mind, when u get a Bluetooth Dongle u maybe need to recompile ur Kernel for the needed Bluetooth driver... but i think ur here on Gentoo so u know how it works to build a kernel ;)

regards

The truth is, MTP support for Linux SUCKS! I use kde-misc/kio-mtp under KDE, but tried every other solution as well.
They all suck and barely work. I have a Note2 and can fortunately use an app called SGS3_easy_UMS, which at least sets the external sdcard into the oldschool UMS mode. Basically we all can say thanks to Google for this mess. I suggest you browse the XDA-developer forum for your phone and try to find a solution there. Good luck.

I also recommend to unmask media-libs/libmtp-9999... But like I said, even with that, it sucks. Pretty pathetic though.

sys-fs/simple-mtpfs entered the package tree recently. It is a fuse based file system. It is the only mtp app to reliably allow me to copy files to a Nexus 7. No out of the box automount.

I'm using adb for my Samsung GT-P7500 tablet. It's a part of android-sdk-update-manager. The only drawback is that you have to turn on debugging on your phone but it's still faster than messing with not really working mtp support (been there, tried that).

I'd recommend jmtpfs - works pretty reliably for me with Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 - automount etc. works fine as well. Here's an ebuild I put together for it:
