I followed the handbook, as I have done so many times before. I also used the Pepoluan Wiki article on paravirtualizing Gentoo.

So on my first boot, I get a crash, the last lines I see in the console are:
Code:

blkfront: xvda: barrier: enabled
 xvda: xvda1 xvda2 xvda3 xvda4

Bootloader:
Code:
title Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel /kernel root=/dev/xvda3 xencons=hvc console=hvc0
#initrd /boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.24-gentoo-r5

I've set the CD bootable=false in Xen, but strangely when I have the Gentoo CD in the drive, the boot goes a little further, and I see this after the xvda lines above:
Code:

blkfront: xvdd: barrier: enabled
 xvdd: unknown partition table
setting capacity to 209715200
xvda: detected capacity change from 0 to 107374182400
Setting capacity to 350624
xvdd: detected capacity change from 0 to 179519488

I have only xvda partitioned 4 ways, xvdd I guess is the CD drive. Not sure where to troubleshoot next. Help is appreciated! Thanks.

I don't have much experience with Zen. This might be useless but have a look at this; http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xen-guide.xml

Thanks much! This guide is more for turning Gentoo into a hypervisor, whereas I am seeking help on configuring Gentoo as a guest of Xen.

Do you know if its a grub issue or a kernel issue?

I think it's kernel, only because it gets past grub. The trouble is that in XenCenter I can't really see the problem, I don't have faith that the text it shows me was the last output. No errors are indicated. I built an initramfs with genkernel and I think I'm into a new issue now. It used to stop almost right after booting and crash the VM. But now, the VM keeps running and the last line I see is like "freeing unused kernel memory", which I think is the last thing you see before init starts. CPU usage goes to 0% but the VM is on. So I'm wondering if this is a kernel command line issue. But the most frustrating thing is how to troubleshoot this :\.

Thx

Did you build the kernel with genkernel or did you config the entire kernel with menuconfig?
