Hi,
there is a thunderbird-addon with the super-cool feature to create links to single e-mails for applications outside thunderbird. You might create a document that way that links to a specific email. Way cool.
But: I cannot make it work. I followed the instructions for ubuntu (with appropriate paths):
Code:
    You'll need to update your ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list:
    under [Added Associations], add the line
    x-scheme-handler/thunderlink=thunderbird-tl.desktop;
    then, make a copy of your ~/.local/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop and name it thunderbird-tl.desktop
    Change the line that starts with
    Exec=thunderbird %u...
    to
    Exec=thunderbird -thunderlink %u...
    and the line that starts with
    MimeType=...
    to
    MimeType=x-scheme-handler/thunderlink;
    this entry for Thunderbird will thus serve only for handling ThunderLinks.

Creating the links works, but link marking and following does not work, even inside thunderbird itself. Any ideas?

hi,

do you still have issues getting the plugin to work? I only tested it on Ubuntu and Win7 and don't know much about gentoo, but maybe I can help.

- can you call TB with the -thunderlink option and the actual link and does it give you the correct email?
- were you able to follow the instructions or did you have to diverge somewhere? (I just found out that things have changed a little in Ubuntu 12.04, for instance)

ps: v0.06 has another option that adds the path to the TB executable before the link; you can paste that into .sh files (in case that's an interesting usecase for you)
