The politically correct thing to do here is for the English to make allowances for provincial cultural differences.

The more aboriginal Gaelic / Celtic people of Scotland, Wales and Ireland are somewhat backward, not having benefited from as much occupation by and insemination by invading Italians, Germans, and French (the only real post-Celtic influx being grunting Nordic savages). Intellectual capacity and emotional intelligence have not been binding evolutionary selection criteria there until very recently, on a historical time scale (as in, it han't manifested itself yet).

The English, meanwhile, are mostly Germanic and French (at least in terms of culture), and as a result have had more pussified sensibilities for many hundreds of years. So, I think it's incumbent upon the English here to be the better man, as it were, and make concessions for the limited capacity and cultural laggardness of their kilt-wearing, offal-eating, stump-tossing Northern friends and allies.

I have lived in Glasgow but don't come from there.

By the sound of it (black tie) this is a very small minority of unusually well-off undergraduates who don't represent the majority. I'd like to see those posh, student arses go to the east end some time and heckle Celtic supporters returning from a game.

If I'd been there I'd probably have ended up punching someone in the face. Hate that shit.
