I have no speaker channel in alsamixer.

Your master level is very low, which may be the issue.

Anyway, what USE flags are you using?

I have no audio issues on my Dell Studio 1555 with the same kernel.

Could you share please your kernel config and /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf

The same situation with maximum Master level, sound only via headphones.

USE flags for alsa packages
Code:
[ebuild   R    ] media-sound/alsa-headers-1.0.25  0 kB
[ebuild   R   ~] media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.26-r1  USE="-alisp -debug -doc -python" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python2_7 -python2_6" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 -python2_6" 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ~] media-sound/alsa-utils-1.0.26-r2:0.9  USE="libsamplerate ncurses nls -doc -minimal (-selinux)" 0 kB

Ok, here is the contents of the file you requested:

Code:
$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf
# Alsa kernel modules' configuration file.

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore

##
## IMPORTANT:
## You need to customise this section for your specific sound card(s)
## and then run `update-modules' command.
## Read alsa-driver's INSTALL file in /usr/share/doc for more info.
##
##  ALSA portion
## alias snd-card-0 snd-interwave
## alias snd-card-1 snd-ens1371
##  OSS/Free portion
## alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
## alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1
##

# OSS/Free portion - card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
##  OSS/Free portion - card #2
## alias sound-service-1-0 snd-mixer-oss
## alias sound-service-1-3 snd-pcm-oss
## alias sound-service-1-12 snd-pcm-oss

alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss

# Set this to the correct number of cards.
options snd cards_limit=1

Hope it helps.

Unfortunately this didn't help me.

Q-collective shared his kernel config and I took sound section from it. This is what helped me.

thanks for answering so quickly :)

could you please post the sound section from Q-collective's kernel config ?

edit:

oh - you mean the alsa config ? - ok

edit.

I just compiled 3.8.1 and moved back from 3.8.2 and it seems to be "fixed" (either some compilation, kernel-patching issue or else - regression, etc.)

so for me it's probably not kernel-config related but can't hurt anyway to compare the configuration :)

thanks ! :)

I'm currently investigating my issue and it seems to be a regression introduced by a recent commit:

ALSA: hda - hdmi: Make jacks phantom, if they're not detectable

not entirely sure yet
