Hello,

Hi Jonashrem,
The xorg log in addition to the configuration file gave me a lot of ideas of how to solve your problem. The first thing I did was to find out what the hell is HorizSync and VertRefresh. Because that's where the problem seems to be:

Code:

[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID for Acer HS244HQ (DFP-1) contradicts itself: mode
[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0):     "1920x1080" is specified in the EDID; however, the EDID's
[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0):     valid HorizSync range (30.000-83.000 kHz) would exclude
[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0):     this mode's HorizSync (27.0 kHz); ignoring HorizSync check

So I asked google to find it out for me (site:x.org HorizSync VertRefresh). And here I got some useful information:

Quote:

4. You can approximate the desired V and H frequencies.
Suppose You want to work with resolution 1024x768 and with refresh 75kHz
(let's assume Your device can handle this):

So,
VertRefresh should be sth like 50-90

HorizSync is VertRefresh*(number_of_lines),
75Hz*768=57.6kHz

Of course I had to look up your monitor specs at amazon so all we have to do is to put new data in the formula above:

Code:

HorizSync = 120Hz
number_of_lines = 1080
120Hz * 1080 = 129600Hz (which is 129.6 kHz)

Now according to the script generated by nVidia:

Code:

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier     "Monitor0"
    VendorName     "Unknown"
    ModelName      "Acer HS244HQ"
    HorizSync       30.0 - 83.0
    VertRefresh     56.0 - 75.0
    Option         "DPMS"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier     "Monitor1"
    VendorName     "Unknown"
    ModelName      "Acer HS244HQ"
    HorizSync       30.0 - 83.0
    VertRefresh     56.0 - 75.0
    Option         "DPMS"
EndSection

Your HorizSync (which is supposed to be 120Hz) and VertRefresh (which is supposed to be 129.6kHz) are out of range! That explains why:

Code:

[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID for Acer HS244HQ (DFP-1) contradicts itself: mode
[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0):     "1920x1080" is specified in the EDID; however, the EDID's
[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0):     valid HorizSync range (30.000-83.000 kHz) would exclude
[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0):     this mode's HorizSync (27.0 kHz); ignoring HorizSync check
[    33.622] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0):     for mode "1920x1080".

That showed up in your xorg log. So the resolution would be:

Code:

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier     "Monitor0"
    VendorName     "Unknown"
    ModelName      "Acer HS244HQ"
    HorizSync       30.0 - 120.0
    VertRefresh     56.0 - 130.0
    Option         "DPMS"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier     "Monitor1"
    VendorName     "Unknown"
    ModelName      "Acer HS244HQ"
    HorizSync       30.0 - 120.0
    VertRefresh     56.0 - 130.0
    Option         "DPMS"
EndSection

To correct the ranges so we can get to 120 Hz in HorizSync and 129.6 kHz in VertRefresh.

Are you fucking crazy rmzelnick ?

You are telling him to goes out of his monitors specs to setup a resolution...
As of today i don't know a monitor model without a security to prevent this case, but back to old days, your suggestion could destroy his hardware.

So even it doesn't appears so harmful, it's not certainly something to try, and in no way something to suggest to anyone.
Have a look here https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-894978-highlight-samsung.html

Back on topic :
Jonashrem: one of your monitor cannot communicate with the nvidia card properly, because you are using a single DVI adaptor while 3D monitor and most high resolution monitor need dual-DVI adaptator.
Just buy a dual adapter and your problem will be gone by itself. As your monitor cannot with it match its highest values, the monitor then cannot do what the card is trying to do.

Hello,

thank you very much for you answers.

@rmzelnick: Only one of my Monitors is a HS244HQ, so putting them both to 120 HZ might be a bad idea

@krinn:

my Monitor is connected with hdmi Cabel with should be dual-dvi kompatibel, shouln't it?

I use this http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B003CXJC10/ref=wms_ohs_product Kable with that http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005GX7FNG/ref=wms_ohs_product card.

This is my log when I use the working 305.64 driver:

You may then just mask problematic driver then, you should bugreport that in gentoo.org and/or nvidia so they will get fixed and saved every users that will upgrade to it soon and may face it too.

i have exactly the same issue with the Acer HS244HQ.
it came up when i did a world update, after reboot, the first montior works, the 2nd acer not. (it's blinking on/off)
downgrading nvidia-drivers, xorg-server or kernel doesn't help.
also i did a kernel upgrade.
after that update to 3.7.10 there is only the last nvidia-drivers version 313.26 working, so a downgrade of the graphic drivers is no option anymore to fix the behaviour of the monitor/LCD.

i tried to get help @ https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/532969/monitor-switches-on-and-off-with-nvidia-drivers-gt-310-19/#3751321 but didn't get any answer yet. Didn't coma up with any solution other than masking drivers and staying at 3.6.11 kernel
