|
|
| Quote: | A meteor crashing in central Russia's Ural mountains has injured at least 500 people, as the shockwave blew out windows and rocked buildings.
Most of those hurt suffered minor cuts and bruises but some received head injuries, Russian officials report.
A fireball was seen streaking through the clear morning sky above the city of Yekaterinburg, followed by loud bangs.
The meteor is believed to have landed in a lake near Chebarkul, a town in the neighbouring Chelyabinsk region.
Much of the impact was felt in the city of Chelyabinsk, some 200km (125 miles) south of Yekaterinburg. |

while we're at it, people are dying of skin cancer too much... we should ban the sun. |

The news I saw on it claimed they had nothing to do with other -- just a "coincidence". Seems to me they're probably part of the same asteroid field.
The video of the one in Russia is awesome. What a heart-stopping moment, to see something like that tearing across the sky. You have just enough time to think, "We may all be about to die.", and then "FLASH.... BOOM!", and you're either dead, or you aren't. Kind of like hearing the sound of incoming artillery.
My ass would probably have been headed to the nearest basement as fast as its legs could carry it, with no consideration for dignity. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

My immediate reaction would be that it's an incoming ICBM. A huge flash of brilliant light like that I'd assume to be a nuclear detonation. I might look like an idiot, but I'm just being honest. My ass would be in the basement in seconds. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

Back in the eighties I watched what I thought was a meteor, then it broke up very symmetrically. Realizing it was headed towards the East Coast it was an "Oh Shit!" sort of feeling. The next day the Soviets said they had a "Scientific" rocket go off course and reenter over the US. |

Once I was where I shouldn't have been, and I heard the wailing sound of incoming artillery (doesn't sound like in the movies, by the way). I heard a POP! a couple hundred feet over my head and could literally see the sub-munitions separate and continue on their way separately, like somebody threw a basket of baseballs. They landed on the other side of the hill behind me. I quickly changed my environment. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

They say if you hear mortar round, it passed you. If you don't hear it, it means it might be heading your way. |
