|
|
Wait, what?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21280101
| Quote: | A 15-year-old Icelandic girl has won the right to use the name given her by her mother, after a court battle against the authorities.
Blaer Bjarkardottir will now be able to use her first name, which means "light breeze", officially.
Icelandic authorities had objected, saying it was not a proper feminine name.
The country has very strict laws on names which must fit Icelandic grammar and pronunciation rules. |
| Quote: | Like Germany and Denmark, Iceland has rigid limitations about how a baby can be named. The names like Carolina and Christa, for example, are not allowed because the letter "c" is not part of Iceland's alphabet. Names cannot be unisex either.
Blaer's mother, Bjork Eidsdottir, has said that she had no idea that Blaer was not on the list of accepted female names when she gave it to her daughter. |

We need laws like this to keep the US safer. Also, we need to ban high capacity names too! _________________

| Well, this is interesting in so far that Island is one of the few countries that still actually use the nordic naming scheme "<name> son/daughter of <father>". So it is much "more official" than elsewhere. |

What if wanted to be Bjork Bjork Bjork? Or would you have to move to Sweden for that?
Can you still get a name like Harald Bloodaxe or Thangbrand Horsegelder in Norway? _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

You mean even black guys that live in Iceland have names like Sigurdur and Ingimar? _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

That's actually pretty close to what I think would be an ideal solution. I'd like there to be 20 questions though regarding the candidate's platform that they are voting for -- if you can't get 15 of the questions correct about the candidates platform then your vote isn't counted because you obviously don't know what you are voting for. _________________

I'm pretty sure that violates fundamental rights of the stupid.
BTW, I don't understand why people are still harping about Obama's win. In retrospect, Obama ran a better campaign, gave better answers to most of the question and was far more coherent than his opponent. Basically what I'm saying is, Obama won fair and square. And no, he wasn't elected by the stupid. He was elected by the smart.
Don't believe me? Ask who voted for him in this forum and you'll know. _________________ What looks like a cat, flies like a bat, brays like a donkey, and plays like a monkey? |

We'll never know if Obama would have been elected if such a model was in place to evaluate that the voters actually knew what is platform was, but if you are so confident in your conclusion what would be the harm in implementing such a model then?
Also, how does quizzing someone on what their candidates platform is violate rights? You are still letting them vote however they want, so long as they can illustrate that they know what they want. It doesn't discriminate on view, it just requires that you know what the view of the candidate is in order to vote. _________________

I am NOT about to write a rebuttal to your post. This is a thread about an Icelandic girl and her name. If the girl named herself Obama, she'd probably be queen of Iceland.
Has someone thought of that? Huh? Huh? _________________ What looks like a cat, flies like a bat, brays like a donkey, and plays like a monkey? |

it would be a violation because it would keep the less educate from voting.
Considering the way the USA moves this would mean that soon only the top 1% would be allowed to vote.
Well, for them it would be perfect. There would be no need to sell their candidates to the masses. would make ruling that plutocratic oligarchy a lot easier. _________________

It's so sad how the Scandinavians have shifted so far to the left. Taxation and authoritarianism are why so many left and came to the USA... unfortunately their kids end up voting for the same authoritarian bullshit that prompted the emigration in the first place.

typical feminazi dumb babbling.
Oh, those civil rights of those women who chose freely to have them filmed while doing sexy stuff in exchange for money are hurt!
And we must protect the children!
What about the men? The men who don't have names or faces. Who are just sperm generating fucking machines? What about there rights?
It's is the same as that 'domestic violence' crap those assholes constantly shit into the world. Ignoring that lots of studies show that most domestic violence was started by women (and a lot of it is targeted at women). Even more ignoring the male victims.
All men's fault.
I am sick of it.
Iceland just made it on my list. _________________
