Hi,
from my system A (UTF-8) I am connected via SSH to another system B, also UTF-8. From system B I will ssh into system C which is en_US.ISO8859-1.
Now my problem is, that when I am displaying files, I see garbage for some characters.
What's the best way to handle that? I cannot change system C's locale.

Do you have en_US.ISO8859-1 enabled in /etc/locale.gen on the system where you actually display the files?
How are you displaying the files? |

Hi,
no - the system used for viewing was UTF-8 only.
For viewing I tried less, mcedit and nano.
I'll try to add the locales from the other system to the system I am using for viewing. |
