A reasonably sane article from NYT

Well BoneKracker despite that you might think I'm a "communist-socialist - us and not me" guy I don't have a "hard-coded" position in this area. Actually I'm often a very individual-lonely tiger that don't want to be uniformed like the nazis But although I want to do as much as I can by myself (and as a comment to the gun-control-debate I also want my own guns to be able to protect myself ) there are big projects like Space travel, Linux etc that can't work without a focus on the "us" and not "me".
| Quote: | | When Europeans nationalized their religions, we decentralized and produced a great flowering of entrepreneurial denominations. When Europe organized state universities, our diverse communities organized private universities. When Europeans invested in national welfare states, American localities invested in human capital. |
Sure there are many pros and cons to this attitude but the university thing is very wrong, because there are many people who would be able to study something hard, but they can't because they can't pay thousands of dollars to a private university. On the other hand are many rich kids studying at harvard for example just because their daddy is rich but they didn't earned it. If I would not live in europe I couldn't study at the university.
Moreover the USA consists of many states and I don't think it would be appreciated if suddenly one state says: from now on we are going our own way and are not part of the USA.
And wouldn't it be better if all the linux communities would work more together? I think Linux would be stronger that way...
Of course I also see the danger in the "too much we-way" and I don't suggest we should become like the borg-species... _________________ "I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! Well that sounds more like a pragmatic balance, such as I was talking about. Maybe in the other thread I was too hasty in my judgement of your position, which seemed to me at the time rather absolutist. My apologies. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

despite the fact that the thread title contains the word "obama" there are surprisingly less posts... I've watched the first minute from the youtube-link and it's very true that one doesn't need a degree in political "science" to know the society... But all obama haters must admit that the "the president of the US is a terrorist" story is very old and common regardless of whom is president... I remember all those boring hate speeches against bush junior, although I don't like him either... _________________ "I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! Here's another relatively sane article (this one by CNN) discussing the significance of Obama's inaugural address. In very nice, reasonable language, it says that now that he doesn't have to worry about re-election any more, he's going to reveal his true nature and go balls-out Stalinist on us.
