I have this nifty pair of USB speaker that I almost have going:

From dmesg:
Code:

usb 2-2: new full-speed USB device number 2 using uhci_hcd
usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=08bb, idProduct=2704
usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 2-2: Product: USB Audio DAC
usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Burr-Brown from TI
input: Burr-Brown from TI               USB Audio DAC    as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-2/2-2:1.2/input/input10
hid-generic 0003:08BB:2704.0002: input: USB HID v1.00 Device [Burr-Brown from TI               USB Audio DAC   ] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-2/input2
usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio

Alsamixer recognizes them, and lets me select them, so far so good, and I can set the levels.

Phonon (the KDE settings plugin, I think) sees them as a new sound card and lets me select them, and the
"test" button generates a nice loud KDE sound.

But Audacious, xine and mplayer want nothing to do with them. They all run, and think they're talking to
the sound system, but produce nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jon.

Audacious, xine and mplayer are all set to use the default ALSA device, right? Do they let you specifically select those speakers?

AHA! Alsa provides this cool and intuitive interface for setting the default alsa device,
it's called a "dotfile" and all you have to do is create it with an editor (the truly clueful will use the command line)
in the proper locaiton with the proper stuff in it and all is well.

Wait until I tell my mac friends about *this*!

OK works now sorta, but audacious can't set the volume, and the speakers builtin volume controls don't work.

Good enough for now.

Cheers,

Jon.
