thanks "Cynede" for your kind reply. Well preior I have worked on Fedora/Ubuntu and after justing downloading the ISO file i install it by GUI or command line. but it was easy. No need to use internet bcz every thing is on the ISO file which consists of almost 3.5 GB.

In case of Gentoo it is different. I know with minimum installation I can not access the GUI interface. For a complete desktop enviroment which has adobe, office, multimedia & internet how can I get these ? My be my questions seams too much stupet but when every u use a new thing there are many questions in mind.

I hope that you understand what I want to say.

thanks

honey_bee,

The Gentoo minimal *.iso is just the tools you need to do the install. None of its code goes into your install.
You will download the stage3 file which is the minimum set of files every Gentoo must have. After that you install what you want to.

You will follow three guides to get a GUI on your system.
The Gentoo Handbook, which will get you to booting your own install.
The Xorg Configuration Guide, which provides the underpinnings for a GUI
The <GUI of Choice> guide to install your GUI.

You do not need to use the Gentoo *.iso to install Gentoo. Any liveCD that provides a root shell will do.
Many users reccommend System Rescue CD.

I am new in Gentoo that why need a clear guidance.

thanks

honey_bee,

SystemRescueCD is a Gentoo based liveCD that you use in place of the Gentoo minimal CD. It provides all the tools you need to install Gentoo and has the advantage of providing a GUI and web browser, so you can read the handbook and the forums while you install.
There is also an IRC client, so you can join #gentoo at irc.freenode.net

Boot with System Rescue CD, start the GUI, if you wish, open a root shell, then follow the Gentoo handbook. No extra steps are required

honey_bee,

Just to clarify a little bit, with Gentoo, with the exception of the bare minimum that is needed for Linux to operate properly once it's booted (you'll eventually learn that this is called the system set), you don't get anything unless you install it. You don't get a GUI (but there are at over half a dozen you can install). You don't get a web browser (but all the usual suspects are available to install). You don't get...well, you do get the idea, don't you?

Bee,

It is not a easy thing if you turn to install Gentoo from your previous "easy" Linuxs.

Gentoo installation is not those "one-shot" thing if you start it from Tarball3. It will spend you 100+ hours to get it work especially you are using some strange hardware.

If you are not ready to spend some much energy, I advice you give up.

But it it not so difficult that you cannot get it. I just follow the handbook of gentoo.org and the resource discovered by Google and now I installed one laptop workstation and one server with some network application.

By "play" Gentoo, I really understand a lot of basic thing of Linux which cannot be easily get from other Linux distributions. If you have already played Ubuntu and Fedora, I think you can have the feeling you are just using Windows and you are lazy to learn more because you seem to manage everything by that X GUI.
