|
|
By default, x11vnc does not seem to have fbcon or system-libvncserver enabled, along with a few other flags. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the pros and cons building with these flags? I have Googled but can't seem to find anything. Here is the output from my emerge. Also, this is on an old PIII laptop that does not have much RAM at all so I am looking for any optimizations I can get.
Code: | TinyTux boot # emerge -av x11vnc
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] x11-misc/x11vnc-0.9.13 USE="crypt jpeg ssl threads zlib -avahi -fbcon -system-libvncserver -tk -xinerama" 2,787 kB
Total: 1 package (1 new), Size of downloads: 2,787 kB
Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No] |
Here is my make.conf just for reference:
Code: | TinyTux boot # cat /etc/portage/make.conf
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=native -fomit-frame-pointer"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo http://gentoo.osuosl.org/"
SYNC="rsync://rsync3.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
VIDEO_CARDS="intel i915"
INPUT_DEVICES="evdev synaptics"
LINGUAS="en"
USE="alsa bindist branding -cups dbus drm gif gnome gtk -ipv6 javascript jpeg lm_sensors mmx ntp png sse symlink systemd threads tiff truetype vim vim-syntax X" |

Thanks, but that does not really tell me too much. I had read the descriptions of each of the flags but I am not sure how to make an educated decision as the whether or not I should enable each of them. |

I think the"fbcon" enables this feature.

Quote: | Another amusing thing one can do is use Xvfb as the X server, e.g. "xinit $HOME/.xinitrc -- /usr/X11R6/bin/Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1024x768x16" x11vnc can poll Xvfb efficiently via main memory. It's not exactly clear why one would want to do this instead of using vncserver/Xvnc, (perhaps to take advantage of an x11vnc feature, such as framebuffer scaling or built-in SSL encryption), |
