Hi there,

I've been at this for days and though I've seen many others online with very similar issues, nothing seems to solve my problem. I'm getting the "no screens found" error when I try to startx. I'm using an HP dv2934ca which runs an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M. I've posted the output of startx as well as my xorg.conf and make.conf. If anyone would be able to give me a hand with this I'd greatly appreciate it.

Dan00man,

Welcome to Gentoo.

Code:
[ 44199.507] (EE) No devices detected.
means the binary blob driver cannot find any hardware to drive.

There are several possible reasons:-
It really doesn't work with your chipset.
You have another driver installed that has control of the graphics chip already. eg, an ndidia frmebuffer driver in the kernel, nuveau(sp) kernel support.
Something else.

Your dmesg output and kernel .config file mad help. Make friends with wgetpaste and put them on a pastebin siye.

Thanks a lot for the quick and informative response NeddySeagoon. That gave me a better idea of what to look for. I spent some time looking through the kernel menuconfig and saw that all nVidia framebuffer support had been disabled. I was also unable to find the control for enabling or disabling nv support. My dmesg clearly shows that gentoo is unable to see any nVidia device in my system, though the specs of my machine online clearly show an nVidia card. My lack of experience has left me at a still loss here. I posted my genkernel.conf (I believe that's what you were asking for). If perhaps my chipset is incompatible, though I'd really like to solve this, is there perhaps an alternative driver I could use that could at least get me using X to some extent?

genkernel.conf:
http://bpaste.net/show/69348

dmesg:
http://bpaste.net/show/69337

EDIT: I've managed to get into the X interface using the vesa driver, so at least that answers my second question :)

Thanks again,

Dan00man
