Hello,

I have a problem with one dependency - dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1 - which fails due to automake when I do a emerge -aeuD world :

Code:
 * Messages for package dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1:

 * Failed Running automake !
 *
 * Include in your bugreport the contents of:
 *
 *   /var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/temp/automake.out
 * ERROR: dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1 failed (prepare phase):
 *   Failed Running automake !
 *
 * Call stack:
 *     ebuild.sh, line   85:  Called src_prepare
 *   environment, line 2817:  Called eautoreconf
 *   environment, line  803:  Called eautomake
 *   environment, line  756:  Called autotools_run_tool 'automake' '--add-missing' '--copy' '--foreign'
 *   environment, line  569:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *           die "Failed Running $1 !";
 *
 * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1'`,
 * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1'`.
 * The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/temp/build.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/temp/environment'.
 * Working directory: '/var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/work/ragel-6.7'
 * S: '/var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/work/ragel-6.7'

 * Regenerating GNU info directory index...
 * Processed 89 info files.
 * After world updates, it is important to remove obsolete packages with
 * emerge --depclean. Refer to `man emerge` for more information.

The errors is due to automake :

Code:
$> cat /var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/temp/automake.out
***** automake *****
***** PWD: /var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/work/ragel-6.7
***** automake --add-missing --copy --foreign

configure.in:24: version mismatch.  This is Automake 1.11.6,
configure.in:24: but the definition used by this AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE
configure.in:24: comes from Automake 1.11.1.  You should recreate
configure.in:24: aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run automake again.

At the hand, I tried to go in directory /var/tmp/portage/dev-util/ragel-6.7-r1/work/ragel-6.7 and I called aclocal, then I emerged only ragel (one of my dependency is using it), and it worked.

How could I patch it or ignore that particular error ?

emerge --info give this :

Code:

NoDataFound,

I'm running into the same issue and don't really know where to go with it. I've read this:

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/autofailure.xml

But have not found a solution there. I don't see a whole lot else out there on this issue.

I just upgraded to gcc 4.6.3 and re-merged libtool hoping that would do the trick, but to no avail. Oddly enough, when I go an re-merge ragel on it's own (outside of the `emerge -ave world`) it merges fine, so this seems to only crop up when it's part of a larger rebuild.

--- Edit ---
I tried to merge ragel right after posting, and it failed. Not believing my eyes, I tried it again. This time it merged cleanly. I'm completely baffled as to how an error like this could be transient!
--- Edit ---

Any ideas out there, Gentooers? I'm 100% stumped.

Thank you for your time,

Needles

There's a confirmed bug written up on that error: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440602

Although the dependency graph shows sys-devel/automake-1.11.6, it's obviously not working.

Give it a day or two and check back :wink:

One day or two, well ... it is more one month or more. :/

Not that I can't wait, but I'm left with no options, except for eventually removing any package depending on ragel.

The issue happens again with ragel-7.0.0.10-r1 after many years. The solution is same. Go to the work folder and aclocal then can use ebuild ragel-7.0.0.10-r1.ebuild merge to complete the process.

There is a bug report https://bugs.gentoo.org/642086.

Again in few weeks, an ebuild which does not work is released.
