A recent update killed my world file, so I am picking up the pieces. One curiosity is that sys-fs/static-dev
is being pulled for removal. It gets the nice
!!! 'sys-fs/static-dev' (virtual/dev-manager) is part of your system profile.
!!! Unmerging it may be damaging to your system.
message. I never installed it and it was certainly never in the world file.
I have been using eudev, so do I really need this? Is this nano all over again?
And what caused portage (or another update) to empty the world file?
EDIT: It seems the package in question is not critical. It is only one of several options. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

Normally, you would emerge --noreplace something like that, but before that's even worth doing, you should make sure your world file isn't getting wiped! |
I rebuilt (and backed up) my world file, but it still is getting pulled for removal. Maybe the system set was also affected? In any case, I will refrain from removing anything until I have a chance to to a complete backup.
EDIT: system looks ok. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order. |

OK, thanks. That is actually kind of what I was looking for.
I'll take as evidence it probably is not important to keep and will not kill my system if I remove it. I wonder why it got installed in the first place. Like I said before, I never explicitly installed it. Since I made a point of using eudev, I found it odd that another dev* would be required. However, when depclean starts throwing warnings, I figure its better to ask rather than risk booting up a rescue CD.
Thanks guys. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order. |
