I have a server with hard drives in it. There are fans blowing directly across the drives. Yet I'm getting these messages in syslog:
| Code: | Jan 6 11:49:30 server smartd[2672]: Device: /dev/sdc [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 73 to 72
Jan 6 11:49:30 server smartd[2672]: Device: /dev/sdc [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 27 to 28
|
How can the airflow temperature be so dangerously high and the internal temperature be so entirely ordinary?
Any suggestions?
Thanks. _________________ Some day there will only be free software. |

Likely because that's the "raw number" field, and it's exactly that - raw, it's the raw number read from the hardware before it has been computed to a real number - and thus doesn't mean it's really that hot. If it were that hot, the other fields in "Value" would be less than "Threshold" which would indicate a failure. If "Worst" is close to "Threshold" that means you could be getting close to failing... _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics
