What is with this sudden emergence of taking childrens' novels and giving them dark, adult themes?
EDIT: OH MY FUCKING GOD! That's Jeremy Renner! I thought he had more self-respect than this. |

It's about adults...that's what adults look like.
In any case, the original story is about two kids who are lured by an old woman into a house so she can eat them. They shove her into an oven and bolt the door shut. Fairly dark themes. |

No, I didn't laugh because breasts are no laughing matter. Honestly, if you think that poster is wrong then you must get out more. |

Its not that sudden, this goes back at least a decade. Just look what was done to at Alice in Wonderland and Strawberry Shortcake
Hollywood just keeps getting less and less original and does more and more copying (except when they do it, its art; when YOU do it a tort, crime and sin). |

"fresh" and "out there" seem to be contradicting to me. Wouldn't something "fresh" need to be created, instead of found "out there" somewhere?!?!?! _________________

Must I remind you about the book 'The Truth about Hänsel&Gretel?'
and that one was from 1963 (a parody which was so well made that people really thought he found the true story behind the fairy tale - the murder of a young women who invented modern nuremberg style lebkuchen and was killed by an envious cook and his sister. Includes excerpts from witch trials, 'archeological digs' etc pp). _________________

Apparently not all adults are thinking adults. </shocker>
Potential to be better than some of the other crap out there. I mean, has anyone seen Avengers? _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

I had an old aunt who used to send her home made lebkuchen each year at Christmas. They were pretty old school. Not very good tasting and hard as a rock. My father broke a tooth on one.
Now I'd probably dip them in coffee and like them. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

| so TV promos for this movie are hitting my area as of today and my first thought was "FUCK YES". it seems to have zero to do with the children's story and everything to do with being awesome. |

I think they need to go further. I think we need Rumplestilskin the hideous, daughter-raping, baby-eating, ax murdering dwarf, with gratuitous gore and taboo sexual violence. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

True, the theme is dark, but it's all about presentation. Hell, we're now sitting our 10-year-old kids in front of a TV screen and make them control a dude with a high-powered semi-automatic rifle, blow the heads off of middle-eastern stereotypes, and allow them to dip their testicles into the mouth of a corpse. I fail to see how that's any less dark than shoving some old bitch into an oven. |

Assuming they're mature enough to make that decision or even play it themselves. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

It's all about presentation! Put a little light fluffy tone to it, and you can make anything a kid's book. I betcha we can make a kids book about people shooting terrorists. |
