|
|
I'm trying to install gentoo now and i'm working the online tutorial
When i'm trying the following command:
emerge --sync
I get the following error
Code: | @ERROR: unknown module `metadata`
rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1516) [Reciver=3.0.8]
>> Retrying..
!! exhausted address for rsync8.de.gentoo.org |
Now i've tried couple different rsync mirrors.
here's the SYNC env in my /etc/make.conf
Code: | SYNC="rsync8.de.gentoo.org" |
any help would be much appreciated.

Ok I tried to re-initialize my environment, but now I get a different error:
Code: | # emerge --sync
!!! getaddrinfo failed for 'rsync8.de.gentoo.org': [Error -2] Name or service not known
>>> Starting rsync with rsync://rsync8.de.gentoo.org...
>>> Checking server timestamp ...
rsync: getaddrinfo: rsync8.de.gentoo.org 873: Name or service not known
rsync: error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(122) [Reciever=3.0.8]
>>> Retrying...
!!! Exhausted address for rsync8.de.gentoo.org |
...
Same as before, I tried couple different rsync targets. Any clues what this can be?
[EDIT]
Nevermind, I fixed this error by fixing my DNS server.
I'm back to the original error |

That SYNC= line looks wrong. I have SYNC="rsync://mirror.local/gentoo-portage". You have neither the leading rsync:// nor the trailing /gentoo-portage. |

for our gentoo servers in Germany, these are our lines (which work correctly)
Code: |
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://de-mirror.org/distro/gentoo/ http://mirror.netcologne.de/gentoo/ http://mirror.opteamax.de/gentoo/"
SYNC="rsync://rsync16.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
|
if that helps |

I also have this issue, except that my gentoo installs have been working fine so far, and they just refuse to sync now. I had no line selecting mirrors in make.conf, and tried adding the lines above, and it fails too.
What could go wrong ?
I am using a home network, where I have done thousands of syncs and never had a problem... |
