|
|
I run gentoostudio.org, and I'm looking for an unused 64-bit laptop so I can test installs. I'm looking locally, but I thought I would post here, too. I don't have any spare machines, and I'm saying "laptop" instead of "desktop" so I can put it out of the way between test installs in my tiny house.
I'll happily put a link to your site in the sidebar as a contributor if you donate to the cause. _________________ Gentoo Studio: http://gentoostudio.org

It sounds like you just need to test a stage4 from time to time, am I right?
Perhaps a VPS or even your own hosted virtual system (e.g. KVM) would suffice. |

It's not just a stage4. I need to test the complete manual install as well from time to time. I do use a virtual machine, but there are issues. I think it would be better and more reliable to have an old piece of hardware to perform testing on. Also, if I come across audio peripherals, I'll be able to plug them in and test them, which a virtual machine would not let me do. And actually testing JACK issues is a no-go for a virtual machine.
So that's why. _________________ Gentoo Studio: http://gentoostudio.org

It might be handy to note where you are from. I'm guessing that shipping an old laptop around the world will be very expensive.
Unfortunately, I don't have an old laptop. _________________ we are microsoft, lower your firewalls and surrender your pc's. we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. your culture will adapt and service us. resistance is futile. |

Yeah, I thought I'd tell people where I am if they want to offer something. I might be able to pay for shipping, depending on how much it is and how my money is at the moment of offering.
I'm looking into other resources, too. Just thought this would be a nice place to post, since my project is Gentoo-related and I can offer something (publicity, such as it is) in return. _________________ Gentoo Studio: http://gentoostudio.org

Maybe you should add a few more specs requests, e.g. "I want to be able to merge foo in bar minutes".
Describing what you want it for could also get people more interested.
I only have an old i686 Compaq that I could possibly spare, but nothing 64bit. We might have a few older workstation in the lab, but I doubt they'd be 64bit and not very portable. I'm in Central Europe btw. |

Oh, speed really isn't important. I meant what I said when I said that 64-bit is the only "requirement" I'm attaching to this project. Well, that and an ethernet port - not even wireless is necessary. _________________ Gentoo Studio: http://gentoostudio.org
