Is it illegal? The problem with information which is "public" knowledge is that people never had practical access to it until recently. IMO, most of the information should no loner be public. At a certain point, even publishing the "wall of shame" for convicted criminals becomes a "cruel & unusual" punishment. How are they supposed to function in society?

I think it was an ironic statement, since there is an infamous publicly accessible database of sex offenders in the US. If there was also a publicly available database of gun owners then on a Venn diagram there would be overlap where privacy concerns are concerned. That's how I would explain it to anyone who failed to get the reference.
Otherwise they are equating you with a paedophile. Which, although possible, I would hope is untrue.
Anyway, isn't a pedophile someone who likes to have sex with feet? |

I hate this confusion over ae/e and oe/e. Already made reading medieval Latin harder than necessary. It should've been corrected when dictionaries were made. English orthography is a mess anyway.

in a few states the lists are constitutionally protected from FOIA requests.

Ah, of course podophilia. Better that way than mixing Latin and Greek. I agree that the British spelling with ae is slightly better than plain e, but considering it stems from Greek pais which is spelt with ai it's still awkward.
When I said English spelling earlier I meant all of English, be it British or American or whatever. It's basically broken.
