Thank you avx.

It's done!

Just for the record:
Code:
emerge -avC $(eix -I --in-overlay enlightenment --only-names)
layman -d enlightenment
rm /etc/portage/package.keywords/enlightenment

Code:
cat /etc/portage/package.keywords/e17
~x11-wm/enlightenment-0.17.0_alpha3
~dev-libs/eina-1.7.1
~dev-libs/eet-1.7.1
~dev-libs/ecore-1.7.1
~dev-libs/efreet-1.7.1
~media-libs/edje-1.7.1
~dev-libs/embryo-1.7.0
~dev-libs/e_dbus-1.7.1
~dev-libs/eio-1.7.1
~dev-libs/eeze-1.7.1
~media-libs/evas-1.7.1

Code:
emerge -av "=enlightenment-0.17.0_alpha3"

And in my case I also needed to:
Code:
EIX_SYNC_CONF='*' eix-sync && emerge -avuND world
emerge -avc
revdep-rebuild -- -av

Not sure, but I just installed e17 fresh on my system and all packages, including dev-libs/eeze-1.7.1 emerged without issue. (My system's ldap lib is at net-nds/openldap-2.4.33-r1).

Good Luck..

After reading this thread, I understand that the best method for installing enlightenment is to NOT use the overlay. Just emerge =x11-wm/enlightenment-0.17.0_beta. After doing so, enlightenment was installed on my Gnome3/Cinnamon laptop, and was easily selectable from lightdm. The desktop comes up and works great. In fact if I can just figure out how to make my monitor settings persistent, (laptop screen off, hdmi monitor screen max resolution), I'll be in enlightenment heaven..

However, given the nature of the overlay, I am curious about enlightenment related packages in portage. After my install, the following enlightenment related packages were installed;
Code:
dev-libs/ecore-1.7.3
dev-libs/e_dbus-1.7.1
dev-libs/eet-1.7.3
dev-libs/eeze-1.7.1
dev-libs/efreet-1.7.3
dev-libs/eina-1.7.1
dev-libs/eio-1.7.3
dev-libs/embryo-1.7.0
net-misc/connman-1.9
media-libs/edje-1.7.3
media-libs/emotion-1.7.3
media-libs/evas-1.7.3
x11-wm/enlightenment-0.17.0_beta

I'm curious if there's any reason to also install any of the other enlightenment related packages in portage here, (btw, I didn't include in this list, any packages that seemed specific to e16);
Code:
*  app-doc/edox-data
      Latest version available: 0.16.8.0.2
      Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
      Size of files: 1,616 kB

      Size of files: 480 kB
      Homepage:      http://www.enlightenment.org/

*  media-libs/fnlib
      Latest version available: 0.5-r2

      Size of files: 421 kB
      Homepage:      http://www.enlightenment.org/
      Description:   Font Library for enlightenment
      License:       GPL-2

*  x11-misc/genmenu
      Latest version available: 1.1.0
      Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
      Size of files: 10 kB
      Homepage:      http://f00l.de/genmenu/
      Description:   menu generator for *box, WindowMaker, and Enlightenment
      License:       GPL-2

*  x11-plugins/epplets
      Latest version available: 0.14
      Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
      Size of files: 949 kB
      Homepage:      http://www.enlightenment.org/
      Description:   Base files for Enlightenment epplets and some epplets
      License:       GPL-2

*  x11-themes/ethemes
      Latest version available: 1.0.1
      Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
      Size of files: 8,056 kB
      Homepage:      http://www.enlightenment.org/
      Description:   all the official Enlightenment themes
      License:       BSD

Any reason to install, or to not install, any of them?

Thanks..

I had those "undefined reference to `sasl_...", too. But in another context. This is not an eeze or e17 bug, but an upgrade issue with net-nds/openldap. Try:
Code:
revdep-rebuild

...then proceed emerging e17.

Those are e16 packages, not e17. All the packages that are needed for e17 are pulled in by the enlightenment:0.17 ebuild. You don't need to emerge anything else.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm looking forward to switching over from Gnome3/Cinnamon to e17.

You were right, Yminus! After re-emerging openldap, e17 emerged like charm! :wink:

PostPosted: Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:41 pm    Post subject: So how to emerge e17? Reply with quote

I have visited the wiki pages here and here. Both of them seem to be outdated by the newer x11-wm/enlightenment-0.17.0_alpha8 ebuild.

I did a simple
Code:
emerge -auDN =x11-wm/enlightenment-0.17.0_alpha8
which seems to work as I have a functional e17 desktop...

However when I "activate" the clock module for instance... no clock pops up on the desktop. If I try the file manager, an error is reported.
It would seem that I have the basic window manager without the add-on modules. What is the new way to emerge the modules?

This is on a clean install, so I do not have any Gnome DE stuff such as menus for e17 to import.

I will also add that on start-up, I get the following pop-up:
Code:

There was an error loading the module named wizard
No module named wizard/linux-gnu-x86_64-0.17-alpha8/module.so could be found in the module search directories

What action should be taken with this module?

     [Unload]  [Keep]

I clicked [Unload].

Yes, I've got similar errors, the file manager doesn't work with the old theme format (lucky me, I use thunar or nautilus in my machines), same with the windows resizing. There are some problems that the E17 developers must resolve.

Don't know why you guys are getting errors. efm works here and I don't get wizard errors. FYI I do have that module.so in the path e17 is searching it for:
Code:
~» equery files enlightenment | grep wizard
/usr/lib64/enlightenment/modules/wizard
/usr/lib64/enlightenment/modules/wizard/def-ibar.txt
/usr/lib64/enlightenment/modules/wizard/desktop
/usr/lib64/enlightenment/modules/wizard/desktop/home.desktop
/usr/lib64/enlightenment/modules/wizard/desktop/root.desktop

By the way, I am using the default theme, so some of your errors could be from the use of old theme. IIRC, there has been some theme related changes to the efm.

Ah... it is fixed. I added all of the modules to my ENLIGHTENMENT_MODULES in make.conf and upgraded to the 0.17.0_beta.

OPT="--prefix=$PREFIX"

for proj in $PROJECTS; do

    if [ "$proj" = 'epdf' ]; then
   cd PROTO/$proj
   make clean distclean || true
   ./autogen.sh $OPT
   make
   make install
   cd -
   continue
    fi
    if [ "$proj" = 'libeweather' ]; then
   cd PROTO/$proj
   make clean distclean || true
   ./autogen.sh $OPT
   make
   make install
   cd -
   continue
    fi
    if [ "$proj" = 'exalt-client' ]; then
   cd E-MODULES-EXTRA/$proj
   make clean distclean || true
   ./autogen.sh $OPT
   make
   make install
   cd -

Be careful with svn scripts now since the svn is in a lot of flux. For example eio has already moved from trunk to efl. Better stick to the alpha,beta, gamma releases unless you want to follow svn very closely.

No idea what it does. Most automatic updates (firefox, thunderbird, chrome, etc) don't work in gentoo since the packages are all compiled.

My friends, I just uploaded the first E17 theme especially for Gentoo! It's Gentoo_Sugar and you can download it from here: http://e17-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=155867

I hope you like it. You can vote for my theme if you want. :wink:

Oh, nice. Don't like the sugar one much, but the second one is great.

Shouldn't a Gentoo theme feature Gentoo's colors(purple)? And what about Larry?!

There was a dali theme long long ago. Here's the only screenshot I could find using Google: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/14/Dali41b.png

Yes, I know. This was my inspiration for the New Dali theme. But now, the 2.1 version, total renewed, is ready! This will be a real SURPRISE for all Dali fans! :wink:
