As Hu suggests, shadow should install the groupadd binary... Try re-emerging shadow and check if /usr/sbin/groupadd exists.

If it does, maybe your PATH is screwy...

Somehow, you uninstalled shadow. That is bad. As drwook said, you need to reinstall it.

For me some shadow tools are gone because i had a harddisk defect. I changed it. But after that these tools were gone.
When i try to reinstall shadow it pulls more pakets than the one from the topic starter.
For polkit eg. it needs a tool from shadow: groupadd.
What can i do?
I would like to copy it from the stage archive. Or some build. ;p

Code:

Gentoo-11 / # emerge --pretend --verbose sys-apps/shadow

Unpack a system backup, chroot into it, and use quickpkg to create a tbz2 of the package(s) you need. Then use emerge --usepkgonly on the live system to install the tbz2.
