| I thought all planes were flying bombs potentially. Plus I always found a slight smell of fuel from the older (jumbo) planes I have been on, but I always assumed that was just me being paranoid. |

He's only pointing it out because it is US.
I too found the fuel smell disturbing. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

Nothing like the smell of aviation kerosene(sort of like napalm) in the morning. _________________ There is, a not-born, a not-become, a not-made, a not-compounded. Thats because the air in the cabin is siphoned off of the low-pressure turbine in the engines (the so called "engine bleed air"). |

True, but not on the 787, where no bleed air is used for cabin pressurization.

The bleed air is supplied from multiple stages. During high power settings it will come from a low (relative) pressure stage and at low power settings it will come from a higher pressure stage. This helps to supply enough air for the systems. In all cases the air comes from upstream of the burner cans (where fuel is introduced).
It is common to get exhaust ingested by the engines or apu if the wind is right while on the ground. That you will smell. Also if the bleeds and packs are turned on too soon after deiicing you will smell some deice fluid.
Had some new tpe331s on new Metro 23s that had leaking oil from the front compressor seal, caused very low but noticeable oil consumption.
You are not breathing unburned jet fuel, sorry. |

no, you are breathing unburned jet lubricant. Several times as toxic... _________________
