Probably I missed to issue an
| Code: | | Revdep-rebuild –library '/lib64/libudev.so.0' && rm '/lib64/libudev.so.0' | after the update. I will try tonight and report back,

I recompiled everything using -eva world, issued the above command, build the ethernet and grafic driver inline (not as a module) which brought me back my net. udev still does not start.
I will open a new thread here http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7188178.html#7188178, since it seems very clear that it is an udev or related software issue
