I've been having trouble with a Java program that I use. It runs fine on a 32 bit JVM but behaves badly on 64 bit JVMs.

Here is a quote from the developers:

"You should be using the 32 bit version of Java and Java 6. The program is written in 32bit and works best there. We have been having issues with Java 7, so we recommend using Java 6."

The program runs fine with 32 bit Icedtea-6 and Sun's 1.6 jre.

What is the best, simplest, easiest way to accomplish that on 64 bit Gentoo?

Possibilities: use 32 bit emulation libraries, chroot to 32 bit, run 32 bit OS in a VM, others?

Just use the emulation libraries. You just have to emerge them and everything should work fine.

I've been doing that for over a week. So far so good. Seems to work just as well as it does on a 32 bit OS. I think I am all set.
