Hey,
Gnome 3.6 is out for about 2 months (soon),
Are there any estimations when it will be available for Gentoo ?
Thanks. |

I think it is here now, if are willing to use the gnome-overlay. It does depend on systemd. I don't use it, but Google says it exsts _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box. |

Are you sure? Afair only 3.8 will actually depend on systemd. |

I don't use Gnome, so I am not completely sure, however my source for this was d2_racing in this discussion _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

Either-way it is annoying as Gentoo naively don't use systemd which will make my env much more complicated than it should be,
Well, probably because RedHat and others uses systemd and invest in Gnome development, oh well.
Thanks anyway,
Asaf. |

You can have systemd in Gentoo, it's just not the default. Other init systems have always been available through portage. |

I know, but the reason I chose Gentoo in the first place was because I don't like complex envs that are full blown with stuff I don't intend to use ever =) |

no, gnome-3.6 does not depend on systemd :
Code: | emerge -av1 gnome-shell systemd openrc
[ebuild N ] sys-fs/quota-4.00 USE="nls -ldap -netlink -rpc -tcpd"
[ebuild N ] sys-apps/systemd-195 USE="acl pam -audit -cryptsetup -gcrypt -http -lzma -qrcode (-selinux) -tcpd -vanilla -xattr"
[ebuild R ] sys-apps/openrc-0.11.5 USE="ncurses pam unicode -debug -newnet (-prefix) (-selinux) -static-libs"
[ebuild R ] gnome-base/gnome-shell-3.6.1-r1 USE="bluetooth networkmanager -i18n -systemd"
[blocks B ] sys-apps/systemd ("sys-apps/systemd" is blocking app-admin/openrc-settingsd-1.0.1) |

Yes, I'm eager to have it too.
