| Quote: | | When the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) this week began taking military action in the Gaza strip against Hamas (as the IDF announced on Twitter), Anonymous declared its own war as part of #OpIsrael. Among the casualties are thousands of email addresses and passwords, hundreds of Israeli Web sites, government-owned as well as privately owned pages, as well as databases belonging to Bank Jerusalem and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. |

| As much as I think that both sides are as bad as each other, if Israel was actually crippled by anarchist hackers I wonder how free and open the Internet would be with a Palestine ruled Middle East. |

Captain Strawman strikes again!
It's a well-known fact that Hamas, who are the elected government of Gaza, are terrorists, who intentionally and systematically murderer unsuspecting, unarmed, helpless civilian men, women and children, and who are on record saying it is their strategy to use their own as human shields. They are racist, genocidal cowards who rely on the vulnerability of the naive and ignorant to their propaganda, which is promulgated as ostensibly "humanitarian" appeals by the anti-semetic closet bigots of Jew-murdering Europe. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

| Quote: | William Hague, Britain's foreign secretary, Cathy Ashton, the EU high representative for foreign affairs, and Barack Obama, have all claimed that Hamas's rockets were responsible for the crisis and that it is the right of Israel to defend its citizens. Had they checked the facts, they would have realised Israel started the attacks. The escalation started when an Israeli military incursion into Gaza on 8 November killed a Palestinian child. That was followed by other Israeli incursions and attacks, provoking a response by Palestinian factions.
Despite that, there were serious efforts to calm the situation and reach a truce. But clearly Israel had another agenda. By targeting Ahmed al-Jabari, leader of the al-Qassam Brigade, it sabotaged Egyptian efforts to conclude a truce between all Palestinian factions and the Israelis. This was confirmed by Egypt's president on Saturday. |

If you had made an effort to find out for yourself what happened on November 8, you'd know the undisputed facts are that Palestinian terrorists ambushed an Israeli platoon, wounding several, from a location within a hundred meters of Palestinian civilians. The Israeli patrol returned fire, and one of the rounds hit a child.
An Israeli tank platoon was providing security along the border between Abasan (a village in South-Eastern Gaza territory) and the Israeli farmland to the East, protecting farmers working the fields at that location (inside Israel) from sniper and mortar fire that regularly comes from across the fence. Palestinian terrorists fired mortars and small arms at the tanks, which popped smoke and returned fire with small arms only (and one bullet did strike and kill a child reported by the Palestinian news sources to have been nearby). Counter-battery fire was placed on the mortars (i.e., mortars or artillery, directed by radar to the exact location of the Palestinian mortars being fired, were fired to destroy them) which were apparently being fired from amidst civilians, since three or four were killed, although they may well have been the people operating the mortars. Such fire would be lethal to anyone standing in the open within 50 meters or so of the mortars being fired (for example, the people firing them, any idiots watching them being fired, or anybody living in a directly adjacent building, which would put them in the category of being human shields, whether voluntary or involuntary).
The Palestinians (Hamas or one of its affiliates) initiated this violence, and the civilian deaths were caused by the terrorists intentionally choosing to fight from the proximity of innocent civilians, using them as human shields and using their likely harm or death for propaganda fodder to gain the sympathy of naive, uninformed people.
Then the Palestinians used this as an excuse to ambush another vehicle, and used the reaction to that as an excuse to fire a barrage of HUNDREDS of rockets at Israeli civilian population centers and a new campaign of sustained terroristic rocket fire at Israeli civilian population centers. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

| Quote: | - TIMELINE: ISRAEL'S LATEST ESCALATION IN GAZA -
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8
Following a two-week lull in violence, Israeli soldiers invade Gaza. In the resulting exchange of gunfire with Palestinian fighters, a 12-year-old boy is killed by an Israeli bullet while he plays soccer.
Shortly afterwards, Palestinian fighters blow up a tunnel along the Gaza-Israel frontier, injuring one Israeli soldier.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10
An anti-tank missile fired by Palestinian fighters wounds four Israeli soldiers driving in a jeep along the Israel-Gaza boundary.
An Israeli artillery shell lands in a soccer field in Gaza killing two children, aged 16 and 17. Later, an Israeli tank fires a shell at a tent where mourners are gathered for a funeral, killing two more civilians, and wounding more than two dozen others.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11
One Palestinian civilian is killed and dozens more wounded in Israeli attacks. Four Israeli civilians are also injured as a result of projectiles launched from Gaza, according to the Israeli government.
During an Israeli government cabinet meeting, Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz urges the government to "cut off the head of the snake... take out the leadership of Hamas in Gaza." He also calls for a cutting off of water, food, electricity, and fuel shipments to Gaza's 1.7 million people.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12
Palestinian militant factions agree to a truce if Israel ends its attacks.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14
Israel breaks two days of calm by assassinating Ahmed Jabari, the head of Hamas' military wing. According to reports, at least eight other Palestinians are killed in Israeli attacks, including at least two children. Palestinian militant groups vow to respond. |

Read my full post above, which I was editing as you posted. It includes a run-down of what actually happened on 8 November. Which you can confirm yourself, if you seek credible sources and draw the happy medium between various opposing sources of propaganda. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

| I haven't read the entire thread, but I question your apparent assumption that everyone here understands rules of engagement. It's like that one video that was posted of a cruiser spraying down Palestinian fishing boats with water. The Palestinian strokers here all called it harassment. It was really just escalation of force saying, "Stay back." |

The only aspect of rules of engagement they need to understand in this situation is that they guy who initiates violence is wrong, and in this case, that was the Palestinians. They are not only the ones who initiated it, but the ones who made an unjustifiable escalation, firing 200 rockets. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

They don't just object extremely, they riot, set things on fire, cut people's heads off, and blow things up. Even the ones not actually doing these things are saying to themselves, "Yeah! Teach those infidels a lesson!" _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.
