Hi, I'm thinking of creating a separate mount for /usr/portage/profiles on an SD card to speed up emerge syncing.
Is this a reasonable idea and any tips?
Thanks. |

no it is not.
profiles change rarely, and the usual performance of an SD card compared to HDD or SSD is poor. _________________ read the portage output!

Mounting the entireity of /usr/portage on external media does have its benefits sometimes. I did this for a while with a small reiserfs partition on a very portable USB drive I keep on me. It was pretty hany, as I have two laptops, and only had to sync once.
The disadvantages of this are obvious, though. Syncing isn't fast, and read times suffer quite a bit. I also had one or two times when I booted up my netbook, was about to -uDN world, and then realised "f---, I left portage at home." _________________ CFLAGS=" -O999999" |
