Hello Everyone,

I am currently running Chromium 23.0.1271.22, and have noticed that it consistently crashes on various Google sites. For instance, I get the "Aw, Snap!" page for any search on images.google.com, and the front page of news.google.com. There may be others, but those are the two that are causing the biggest problems for me. I have tried clearing my profile, but to no avail. Also, I always use incognito mode, so there aren't any extensions that are loaded. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions on a workaround, further troubleshooting steps, or a fix?

Cheers,
Nathan Zachary

Yep, same here. I'm betting it's an upstream bug.

Same here, with the same version. The previous version worked fine, but now I get the "Aw, Snap!" page on many sites, not only google sites and gmail, but facebook also for example. This is a real pain, so I think I will downgrade for now.

EDIT: Found this issue, which seems to be the cause:

Yeah, I've had to disable video accel in about:flags too because the tab freezes on video pages otherwise. Crashes 100% of the time on code.google.com/webfonts as well (but other sites using embedded fonts work fine).

Me too. I tried disabling extensions, and creating a new user profile, as suggestions offered by the Google tech support page that is linked to on the Aww Snap page, and neither worked.

What's weird is that if I go to the main Google page and then using the menu along the top, select News, (or just go directly to news.google.com), I get the page crash. But If I go to the main Google page, select the Play store from the menu along the top first, and then select News, it doesn't page crash.

As far as I can tell, this didn't exist in chromium-22.0.1229.91, but was introduced in with chromium-23.0.1271.10-r1 and continues with chromium-23.0.1271.17 and the current chromium-23.0.1271.22.

Weird..

Another issue with Chromium 23 is that Adblock is not working. It crashes right on the start. As I have not found another report about it, I am asking here if someone has the same problem.

Adblock Plus (Beta) 1.2, (adblockplus.org), works with my current chromium-23.0.1271.22.

I am using (the most popular?!) AdBlock 2.5.45 from chromeadblock.com. Maybe it is time to switch, but I cannot be the only one using that combination.

Thanks for the link to the bug report mrpdaemon. I can temporarily avoid this issue by following the instructions there and;
Code:
nano -w /etc/chromium/default

and editing the CHROMIUM_FLAGS line to;
Code:
CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--disable-seccomp-filter-sandbox"

BTW, I'm still getting this error with the latest chromium-23.0.1271.26.

Thanks..

Please report things like that on the bug tracker in the future, I was not aware upstream has not merged this at .26 time, and we are likely to be backporting the patches on Gentoo.

The main difference is that package maintainers are guaranteed to look at bugs, but not necessarily forum topics. Thanks. :wink:

Wow, thanks for all the feedback regarding the issue. I had spent a lot of time debugging, and even searching for an upstream bug that matched the problem I was having. I really appreciate the links to the bug reports!

Cheers,
Nathan Zachary
