Hello,

When I first installed gentoo in my laptop (about 6 months ago), I am pretty sure that my microphone worked well. And I could use "Sound recorder" (in xfce4) to get my sound recorded. I recently installed skype in my laptop but the microphone didn't work. When I went back to test my microphone by "sound recorder", there was no sound recorded either. When I increased the Mic boost volume bar in alsamixer, I could clearly hear the noise from the speaker. I also have "Mic" in my alsamixer, it seems work with Mic boost together, since when I decrease the bar to the minimum, there was no noise.
there are just 4 options for the sound input, Mic boost, Capture, Digital, and Internal Mic
I am not sure which I used as the sound input. But I tried all, none of them could give the sound recorded.

I don't where the problem is. the kernel may also be the sources too. I don't know.

There it is the output of amixer scontents. Thanks for your help

You have to enable capture ( it looks like its off ) - press F4 in alsamixer and maybe increase mic boost above 0 ( 0 dB = 1 anyway so it should work witout boost )
EDIT : Im not sure if in alsamixer I can enable capture I can increase only, but deinitily I can do that in kmix, try some gnome mixer maybe ?
it will work for 100% when amixer will show [on] on capture device.

yes, we can enable capture in alsamixer by "SPACE". You were right for capture, but after several tests, I have to enable capture and digital and mic boost, all the three to record. Thanks. problem solved
