isn't that kind of sad that you waste your time with an supposed 'operating system' that can't even get something basic as usb2 right?

It's actually amazing that it kept working with most hardware all the way from FreeBSD 4.11/5. USB is almost never needed on a server OS.

Lol you're a weird guy. What part of "USB hasn't been updated since FreeBSD 5", don't you understand?

what about 'a niche os that can't even get its drivers right and has always had fucking bad performance but is overly hyped because of a filesystem that in no way is special, fast or secure' don't you understand?

Wow, you really are ignorant, but let me educate you:

1) USB support is notoriously difficult to write because there are many chipsets, many of which have bugs in their own programming.
2) HAMMER1 is the only open source file system that does automatic file versioning. No need for snapshots. HAMMER1 is also the only filesystem that can stream itself to another slave machine(s) in real-time
3) As for performance, you need to look a little further than the benchmarks at phoronix that don't test real performance, they don't test server or even desktop performance. They are useless shitty micro-benchmarks.

You constantly prove to everyone that you have no interest in OS technology, so why bother replying in a thread?

You should get the development USB image instead if you want to get all the latest updates, it's usually quite stable.

I've been busy reading and see there is a new release coming very soon.

You can use hammer with less than 50GB just make sure you configure the filesystem(after install) to purge and rebalance data quicker (and hold less history), but even so if all youre doing is experimenting with it, it shouldn't matter anyway.

I might rearrange some partitions anyway.

on the contrary - I am interessted in OS technology. That is why I looked around for some inforamtion on DragonFly BSE and found only this:

forked to do 'smp right'
sucks so much with smp that they defaulted to up until recently (now?)
lots of hypes
but
whenever somebody put it to the test somewhere it sucks.

And a fs by someone who fucks everything else up does not scream 'trust me your data, I will be nice, promise'.

Why do you keep on trolling?

You bring nothing to the technical discussion, because you're completely ignorant of the technical subjects and you keep on trolling in threads you have no interest in.

I've added the performance graphs comparing Linux, DragonFlyBSD, FreeBSD and NetBSD. Link in the OP.

Here is a progress report on how all the new optimizations affect performance:

and complete result versus all other major BSDs and Linux.

In short, DragonFly is now "the" platform for PostgreSQL if you want BSD.

Cool. The next release also has some significant changes.

I wish someone would resurrect the nvidia driver :(

DF used to have a wrapper around the FBSD blob, but it's way outdated now and doesn't work.`

New USB code has been committed but is still work in progress.

The nvidia driver? I agree, unfortunately the developer hasn't been active for a while
