and while building the module, it doesn't complain about anything... and this driver version is supposed to support n devices...

However, i am wondering as I actually connect to a N-only network, but cannot achieve very good
transfer rates...

Does anybody knows why iwconfig shows only abg ? and not n ?
so how to tell if something's wrong ?

what other driver could I use ?

I'm using brcmsmac (CONFIG_BRCMSMAC) on my BCM43225 and it's in IEEE 802.11bgn mode. The driver should also support BCM4313.

However at the time of writing this there is only managed mode and monitor mode support. No ad-hoc mode and no master mode.

WPA is required for N speeds.

I know that, using WPA2 and AES

However it does not explain why it can connect to my router in N-only mode, and I still cannot say what mode it's using.

Otherwise the poor transfer rates, the wl driver is working as it should, no problem.

Will give a try to brcm80211.

This is on my laptop:

Code:
eth1      IEEE 802.11abg  ESSID:"Mareck-2G"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.462 GHz  Access Point: E0:46:9A:4E:94:5E
          Bit Rate=130 Mb/s   Tx-Power=200 dBm
          Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality=70/70  Signal level=-28 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

130 Mb/s is a N mode. I know it's low, but I also have Ethernet connected at the moment and WiFi is idling. I'm using Netgear 3700 V2 as a home router with OpenWrt of course ;)

Code:
08:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 01)

Code:
lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by

vboxnetflt             22077  0
vboxdrv               209727  2 vboxnetadp,vboxnetflt
lib80211_crypt_tkip    17230  0
wl                   2545271  0

ok, cannot get much more than 73 Mbit/s using brcmsmac either...
but at least iwconfig is showing a bgn network card !

so am i stuck with those poor rates ??? not even enough to stream video !!!
and using windows, of course, the bitrate is as it should.

any broadcom-sta tweak ? or brcmsmac ?
i cannot believe a 2-3 years old nic cannot be more supported than that ! even with proprietary drivers

Maybe it only supports single spatial stream?

you're actually right...

I'll give a try again at the broadcom-sta wl driver...
I'll also try downgrading my kernel to something like 2.6.33 or so.
Maybe this old driver works better with older kernels and cfg80211 api ???
